Drew Jones
New York University, NY·Biochemistry
Cells constantly build and break down small molecules such as sugars, amino acids and lipids, and these metabolites show what a cell is doing at a given moment. Metabolomics, the large-scale measurement of these molecules, is playing a growing role in basic and translational cancer research.

- Grants
- 1 known grant, through Feb 2029
What they work on
- Provide metabolomics services to cancer researchers, including global and untargeted metabolomics, lipidomics, mass spectrometry imaging and custom targeted methods for measuring specific metabolites.
- Support reproducible processing and storage of metabolomics data, and develop and publish new informatics approaches for analyzing complex, multi-omic and large multi-batch datasets.
- Evaluate and develop new metabolomics technology platforms and instruments to expand the mass spectrometry capabilities available to Perlmutter Cancer Center members.
More about the research
This grant supports the Metabolomics Laboratory Shared Resource (MBX), a core facility serving members of the Perlmutter Cancer Center and their collaborators. Drew Jones, who has 16 years of experience in mass spectrometry and metabolomics informatics, has led it since 2017.
Why it matters
Reliable metabolomics data help cancer researchers understand how tumor cells use and change metabolism, which can inform basic discoveries and translational studies. By offering mass spectrometry services, custom methods and data analysis tools, the facility lets Perlmutter Cancer Center investigators add metabolic measurements to their cancer studies.
Known grants
From NIH and NSF research grants. Labs often have other funding we can't see.
