Effective medicines can treat and partly prevent HIV, but they have not been enough to end the epidemic. People living with HIV face lifelong health consequences even on treatment, and they remain at risk for other dangerous infections such as tuberculosis and hepatitis.

- Grants
- 1 known grant, through Nov 2027
What they work on
- Enroll participants at clinical sites in Cleveland, Cincinnati and Kampala into AIDS Clinical Trials Group treatment trials on antiretroviral drugs, inflammation and organ damage, HIV cure, tuberculosis and hepatitis.
- Contribute to HIV Vaccine Trials Network studies by enrolling participants, including from hard-to-reach populations, and monitoring immune responses to immunization strategies designed to boost vaccine responsiveness.
- Advance tuberculosis and hepatitis C research through the Kampala site, which hosted the first hepatitis C treatment trial in Africa, and through Cincinnati-site expertise in the metabolic complications of HIV.
More about the research
Answering these problems requires large clinical trials run across many hospitals and countries. This grant supports one hub of that effort.
Why it matters
Large, well-run clinical trials are how new HIV treatments, vaccines and prevention strategies are tested in people. By enrolling diverse participants in the United States and Uganda, this unit could help improve HIV treatment delivery, progress toward an HIV vaccine and long-term viral control, and better care for deadly co-infections such as tuberculosis and hepatitis.
Known grants
From NIH and NSF research grants. Labs often have other funding we can't see.
