Molecular imaging uses tracer molecules that light up specific processes inside the body on a scan, letting doctors see where disease is active and tailor treatment to the individual patient. Some of the same agents can both image and treat disease, an approach called theranostics.

What they work on
- Train students, molecular imaging researchers and allied health professionals in the use of molecular imaging agents through webinars, symposia and one-on-one instruction.
- Link the resource to imaging-centric centers at Washington University and Harvard/MGH to share reagents and speakers and co-sponsor educational activities, including programming at the World Molecular Imaging Society meeting.
- Distribute artificial intelligence software for molecular imaging and therapy as downloadable tools developed through a nuclear medicine informatics spin-out company.
- Disseminate clinical imaging agents by providing materials, protocols, and investigational new drug cross-references through material transfer agreements on request.
More about the research
Whether such tools actually reach patients depends less on invention than on sharing: training people to use the agents and distributing reagents, protocols and software.
Why it matters
Molecular imaging and theranostic agents only help patients if other hospitals and laboratories can obtain them and use them correctly. By training students, imaging researchers and allied health professionals, and by sharing reagents, protocols, regulatory references and downloadable AI software, this resource could widen access to these tools. Industry partnership may also support the studies needed to advance an agent toward FDA approval.
Known grants
From NIH and NSF research grants. Labs often have other funding we can't see.
