Johns Hopkins University, MD·Computer Science

Research on aging and on Alzheimer's disease and related dementias draws on many kinds of data: electronic health records, surveys and patient-reported outcomes, wearable sensors, imaging, and omics measurements such as genomics. Combining these into consistent, trustworthy datasets is hard.

Grants
1 known grant, through Jul 2031

What they work on

  1. Mentor early-stage investigators in study design, data pipelines and quantitative methods for multimodal, longitudinal data in aging and Alzheimer's disease research.
  2. Maintain and modernize the secure Johns Hopkins Precision Medicine Analytics Platform (PMAP) and computing environments such as JupyterLab, Databricks and high-performance computing for AI-ready data integration and analysis.
  3. Support Collaboratory pilot projects with secure data collection, harmonized data pipelines and reproducible machine learning analyses of health record, sensor, imaging and omics data.
  4. Work with national and institutional partners to align data standards and contribute resources to the AITC Coordinating Center's Living Textbook on fair, reproducible AI in aging.

More about the research

Without that work, artificial intelligence (AI) studies built on the data may not be valid or reproducible.

Why it matters

Reliable, AI-ready data resources could speed the development of new technologies for frailty, dementia, multiple chronic conditions and caregiver support, while protecting privacy and fairness. Ultimately this work aims to help older adults stay healthy and independent.

Narges Razavian

New York University, NY·Computer Science

Run a pilot embedded pragmatic clinical trial in primary care to test the acceptability, usability and adoption of an existing AI/machine learning tool and decision support for detecting cognitive impairment.

Roy Adams

Johns Hopkins University, MD·Computer Science·Early-career

Develop machine learning methods that combine several imperfect record-based clues for dementia while modeling the error and bias in each, to label whether a patient has Alzheimer's disease or a related dementia.

Xintao Wu

University of Arkansas, AR·Computer Science

Provide data analytics and artificial intelligence services, including customized deep learning solutions, to Phase 2 research project leaders, pilot awardees and other university and regional users of the metabolic research center.
