What they work on
- Run an Evaluation & Planning Core that uses the Regional Needs Assessment to steer and evaluate the center's research, outreach and partnerships across Public Health Service Region VIII.
- Conduct two basic/etiological research projects that look for the causes of work-related injuries and illnesses among agriculture and forestry workers in the High Plains and Intermountain West.
- Carry out one intervention research project that tests ways to prevent harm and one translation research project that turns findings into improved safety practices for farm and forestry workers.
- Support new studies and community efforts through a Pilot/Feasibility Program and a Community-Initiated Grant Program. Share results with dairy, farming and logging partners through several outreach routes.
More about the research
That region is Public Health Service Region VIII: Colorado, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Utah and Wyoming. The long-term goal is to reduce work-related injuries, fatalities and illnesses, mainly in the agriculture and forestry sectors.
Why it matters
Agricultural, dairy and logging workers in Colorado, Montana, the Dakotas, Utah and Wyoming face high risks of injury, death and illness on the job. By turning research into improved safety practices and spreading them through regional partners, the center aims to lower these risks. Its work could benefit farmworkers, ranchers, dairy employees and loggers, along with the communities and industries that depend on them.
Known grants
From NIH and NSF research grants. Labs often have other funding we can't see.
