What they work on
- Design flexible teaching modules, including labs, tutorials, assignments and research activities, on AI security and privacy in computer vision, speech and audio, and network systems, for integration into undergraduate computing courses.
- Align the modules with the NICE (National Initiative for Cybersecurity Education) Cybersecurity Workforce Framework so that students build career-relevant security skills along with communication, teamwork and leadership.
- Evaluate how project-based and competition-based learning that embeds research in coursework affects undergraduate engagement, success, technical growth and professional skill development across partner institutions.
More about the research
Handling these risks requires computing graduates who understand both how AI works and how to protect it. This collaborative education project asks how bringing real AI security and privacy research into regular undergraduate courses can prepare students for those careers.
Why it matters
As AI spreads, organizations need workers who can find and fix its security and privacy weaknesses. Ready-to-use course modules and evidence on which teaching approaches work could help computing departments at many institutions train undergraduates for these jobs. This could support safer and more responsible use of AI.
Known grants
From NIH and NSF research grants. Labs often have other funding we can't see.
Closest labs
Sheikh Rabiul Islam
University at Albany, NY·Computer Science
Develop seven AI4SecureCI learning modules that teach fair and explainable AI for securing cloud cyberinfrastructure, covering topics from malware detection to adversarial attacks, and integrate them into undergraduate and graduate courses.
Aditya Johri
George Mason University, VA·Education Research
Create four role-play case studies on AI-enabled security technologies, such as video surveillance, smart home privacy, and algorithmic hiring, and embed them across undergraduate and graduate cybersecurity courses.
Jiawei Yuan
University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth, MA·Computer Science
Design and build an integrated, extensible research platform for securely combining AI with unmanned aerial vehicles (drones). The platform is meant to support studies that find weaknesses and test defenses.
