What they work on
- Provide on-campus biomedical research opportunities for undergraduates at North Dakota's primarily undergraduate institutions, serving as a pathway into health research careers.
- Strengthen science and technology knowledge in North Dakota's workforce through statewide undergraduate research training in the ND INBRE network.
- Build research capacity for faculty, postdoctoral fellows and graduate students at partner institutions, including continued investment in research infrastructure.
More about the research
Thirty-six of its 53 counties are federally designated "Frontier Counties", with fewer than six people per square mile. As a result, its higher education system once offered undergraduates very few chances to do biomedical research. The grant listed here is the Data Science Core of the North Dakota INBRE (IDeA Network of Biomedical Research Excellence), a statewide network based at the University of North Dakota. The abstract describes the overall network's goals and record rather than a specific research question.
Why it matters
The network gives students in rural, frontier North Dakota access to biomedical research they would otherwise lack. It feeds graduates into medical school, PhD programs and the healthcare workforce. It also builds lasting research infrastructure and capacity at the state's colleges and universities.
