As the United States grows more racially and ethnically diverse, researchers need good data on how different communities take part in politics and what policies they support. National surveys often include too few people from racial and ethnic minority groups and other underrepresented groups to study them well.

What they work on
- Field a post-2024-election online survey of about 22,000 U.S. adults, including registered and unregistered voters and non-citizens, offered in up to ten languages, to measure political inclusion, participation and policy support.
- Survey 1,500 youth aged 16–17 about civic and political engagement alongside the adult sample.
- Build survey content cooperatively with a multidisciplinary consortium of researchers, including scholars at teaching colleges and Minority Serving Institutions, and release the dataset publicly within one year.
More about the research
The Collaborative Multiracial Post-Election Survey (CMPS) was created in 2008 to fill this gap.
Why it matters
The survey will provide a large, publicly available dataset on how diverse and understudied U.S. communities, including non-citizens and teenagers, take part in civic life and view policy. Researchers, including those at less-resourced colleges, could use it to study political inclusion and group relations. Policymakers could also use it to better understand the needs and views of these communities.
